This Health Affairs article takes an in-depth look at NYHealth’s Diabetes Campaign that was set up to tackle the diabetes epidemic in New York State.

Launched in 2008, this five-year Campaign has worked to improve health care and health outcomes for New Yorkers with diabetes by advancing prevention and management initiatives.

The article focuses on the Campaign’s goal to improve clinical care by helping 3,000 primary care clinicians attain diabetes recognition under the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s or Bridges to Excellence’s diabetes recognition programs. By attaining recognition, clinicians show they are delivering the best care and achieving good outcomes for patients with diabetes. The article also features NYHealth grantees’ and staff members’ perspectives on the challenges, opportunities, and results of the Campaign’s efforts to combat the disease.

The article appears in Health Affairs’ January 2012 issue, “Confronting the Growing Diabetes Crisis,” funded in part by NYHealth.
