Rural Health

A shortage of primary care providers, distance from medical centers, and a lack of resources are all issues that inhibit the quality of care rural health care networks are able to provide. The challenges these health care networks face are diverse: in Chautauqua County, the closure of a hospital’s maternity unit put the health of the area’s expecting mothers and newborn children at serious risk; in Glens Falls, the high incidence of diabetes among the population has strained the local hospital’s ability to provide high-quality care; and in Jefferson County, a variety of improvements are needed to ensure the health care system provides its patients with high-quality care.

NYSHealth is committed to helping these communities address the challenges they face, and support grantees that work with rural communities across the New York to develop solutions tailored to each community’s needs. Learn more about some of these initiatives:
