Statement on 2014 U.S. Census Bureau Health Insurance Data
by New York Health Foundation President & CEO James R. Knickman

September 16, 2015 (NEW YORK) – Today, the U.S. Census Bureau released results of the 2014 American Community Survey, which include state-by-state statistics on health insurance coverage for the first year of Obamacare enrollment. New York’s uninsured rate among the general population declined to 8.7% in 2014, from 10.7% in 2013; this translates to nearly 400,000 New Yorkers gaining coverage.

The following is a statement from James R. Knickman, President and CEO of the New York Health Foundation, on the newly-released health insurance data for New York State:

“New York State has been a leader in implementing the Affordable Care Act, and it shows. More New Yorkers have health insurance coverage and the health and financial security that comes with it.

More work faces us: we need to reach and enroll those New Yorkers who remain uninsured and, importantly, develop a viable solution to cover the hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who today are ineligible for health insurance. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners and grantees throughout the State to ensure that as many New Yorkers as possible have the affordable health insurance coverage they need and deserve.”
