On December 12, 2017, NYHealth held a conversation with leaders from the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) and the New York City Department of Veterans Services (DVS).

Both DVA and DVS work to provide and coordinate benefits for New York’s nearly 800,000 veterans—a diverse population with unique health care needs.

Panelists were Brigadier General (ret.) Loree Sutton, M.D., Commissioner of DVS, and Jordanna Mallach, Special Programs Coordinator at DVA, a combat veteran and Major in the National Guard.

Topics discussed included overviews of the organizations, the scope of their work, challenges they face and address, how they respond to the evolving needs of the veteran community, and plans for the future.
