West Side Campaign Against Hunger COVID-19 Relief
June 23, 2020
The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.
During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYSHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYSHealth awarded West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) a grant to continue food pantry operations and meet growing demand for New Yorkers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under this grant, WSCAH will serve as a community resource for families, children, and older adults in need of healthy food during the COVID-19 pandemic. WSCAH will transition its operations to outdoor distribution sites to ensure safe continuity of its food pantry services. It will also increase the amount of shelf-stable foods stored and distributed. Additionally, WSCAH will expand its mobile market drop-off sites to serve more people in the community.
