The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYHealth awarded The Osborne Association a grant to support child welfare agencies working with the children of incarcerated people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this grant, The Osborne Association provided remote programming and services, including a re-entry hotline in New York City and Buffalo and adapted its technical assistance and training activities to agencies working with the children of incarcerated people. It produced pre-recorded and live trainings and curricula focused on supporting these children’s educational success from early childhood through college; meeting their remote learning demands; and preparing them for adjustments over the year. The Osborne Association distributed resources to leadership and frontline staff of education and child welfare agencies, law enforcement, and the courts across New York State.
