The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.
During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYSHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYSHealth awarded the Robin Hood Foundation a grant to ensure access to nutritional, housing, and medical resources for New Yorkers experiencing financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under this grant, the Robin Hood Foundation will partner with New York Disaster Interfaith Services and NYC Health + Hospitals to provide cash assistance and case management to New Yorkers experiencing financial hardships who have been treated at H+H facilities for COVID-19. Community health workers and social workers will conduct initial outreach and screening to eligible low-income New Yorkers. Patients will then be connected with case management services, including cash assistance, referrals to local food resources, and additional medical and housing services.
