The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYHealth awarded the Primary Care Development Corporation (PCDC) a grant to help expand telehealth services for small health care practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this grant, PCDC supported small health care practices and across New York State that did not have the capacity to initiate telehealth services. PCDC launched a series of webinars about using telemedicine on topics such as billing and coding, HIPAA compliance, best practices for virtual communication, and potential vendors. It also produced supplemental guidance documents and sample patient-facing materials for providers that was shared on its website and through newsletters. Additionally, PCDC provided direct technical assistance to providers who needed more targeted support in establishing services such as workflow design, technology solutions, and individualized billing guidance. PCDC also hosted and facilitated virtual sessions for providers and frontline staff to share successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
