The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYSHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYSHealth awarded the Mental Health Association of New York City (Vibrant Emotional Health) a grant to provide mental health and emotional support to health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this grant, Vibrant Emotional Health will provide virtual interactive training and psychological first aid to frontline and supervisory health care workers in partnership with trade associations in human services and behavioral health. It will deliver training and technical assistance to help participants cope with high stress, build resilience, and identify and reduce the impact of vicarious trauma. Vibrant Emotional Health will also provide strategies for promoting self-care practices and implementing a framework for health care organizations to support the emotional well-being of their employees.
