The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYSHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYSHealth awarded the Jewish Association Serving the Aging (JASA) a grant to facilitate in-person and remote services that support home care, adult protective services, and community guardianship.

Under this grant, JASA will continue to provide face-to-face community visits and remote outreach to address food and housing insecurity, health care access, and other safety-related concerns among isolated, older New Yorkers. It will provide increased training and resources to its staff to better support and manage complex client situations resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. JASA will also support preventive interventions for older New Yorkers experiencing isolation, exploitation, and loss of physical health and/or mental alertness.
