In Progress

The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people’s lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods, particularly for those who work to improve the health of our communities.

During this difficult time, many organizations across New York State are working tirelessly to keep people safe, especially the most vulnerable. In response, NYSHealth is supporting statewide and local efforts to address emerging health care and public health needs in the wake of the pandemic. In 2020, NYSHealth awarded AdkAction a grant to ensure access to healthy, affordable, and locally sourced food for low-income residents in the North Country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under this grant, AdkAction will partner with the Hub on the Hill to transition the distribution of its emergency food packages, which contain healthy meals sourced from local farms, to a more sustainable mobile market for low-income residents in the North Country. Through the mobile market, residents will have the ability to purchase healthy food from multiple local farms at a subsidized price and have it delivered to their homes. To ensure accessibility for low-income residents, the mobile market will accept SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks, and other incentives. Additionally, AdkAction will pilot Adirondack Market Match—an incentive program that will match $0.30 for every dollar spent on all local food purchases—and assist low-income residents with enrolling in the pilot program, as well as in SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks.
