A new survey commissioned by the Community Service Society of New York (CSS) and Altarum reveals that more than half of New Yorkers are burdened by unaffordable health care—and more than three-quarters are worried about future health care costs. Recently, New York City announced NYC Care, a bold plan to address the affordability problem by expanding health care to all New York.

CSS and the New York Health Foundation (NYHealth) are co-hosting a panel discussion on April 29th, moderated by NYHealth President and CEO David Sandman and featuring:

  • Elisabeth Benjamin, CSS Vice President of Health Initiatives, to discuss the health care affordability survey and new initiatives at the City level to address patient activation on issues related to health care affordability, patient empowerment, cultural competence, and respect for people of color, immigrants, and the LGBT population.
  • Dr. Mitch Katz, NYC Health + Hospitals President and CEO, to discuss NYC Care.
  • Mark Levine, New York City Council Member and Health Committee Chair, to discuss how the Council can respond to the City’s health affordability crisis.
  • Rodrigo Sanchez-Camus, Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation Legal Director, to discuss the power and responsiveness of community groups.
