Biking is a way for people to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives, which can help improve health, lower the risk of heart disease and cancer, reduce stress, and even lead to people living longer. Citi Bike, New York City’s bike-sharing program, has the largest membership and highest ridership of any such program in North America. However, despite the fact that a discounted membership is offered to some low-income residents, its adoption has been slow in some neighborhoods.

Research shows that a lack of information and misperceptions about bike sharing are bigger barriers than price or payment options. In response, Citi Bike has made concerted efforts to promote its discount program, leading to an increase in membership among low-income residents.

Please join the New York Health Foundation (NYHealth) for a conversation with Anne Krassner, Equity and Community Engagement Strategist, Citi Bike, and Tracey Capers, Executive Vice President, Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, to learn about recent bike-share campaigns in East Harlem and on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, two of NYHealth’s Healthy Neighborhoods Fund communities. The panelists will discuss their strategies for identifying and building relationships with other local leaders, residents, and stakeholders in these neighborhoods to increase ridership among New York City Housing Authority residents.

Please R.S.V.P. by Friday, July 6th. Lunch will be provided.
