On July 26, 2017, NYSHealth held a panel discussion on how philanthropy has responded to the growing needs of America’s newest generation of service members and how veterans’ needs have evolved over the 15 years our country has been at war.
Panelists included leaders from fields of veterans philanthropy and mental health, representing the Bob Woodruff Foundation, The Philanthropy Roundtable, and the Headstrong Project.
Topics discussed by the panel included how the needs of veterans have changed over the past 15 years and how philanthropy has responded to those needs; best practices for responsive and impactful philanthropic investments; innovative approaches to delivering services to veterans; the stigma that still surrounds mental health; how external sociopolitical changes impact philanthropy; where deficiencies still remain in the services provided to veterans; and where veterans philanthropy should be heading in the future.
