This report is one in a series of State-based reports intended to provide a quick overview of substance abuse and mental health issues within New York State.

Key findings include Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) information on psychological problems present at treatment admission. In New York, the percentage of admissions with these problems has increased from less than 10% in 1992 to more than 35% in 2005. New York State is also above the national average on Substance Use indicators. The data derive principally from national surveys conducted by the Office of Applied Studies, a component of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
