Scheduled and Unscheduled Hospital Readmissions Among Patients With Diabetes

This October 2010 American Journal of Managed Care article looks at the rates of scheduled and unscheduled readmissions among midlife and older patients with diabetes and examines the socioeconomic and clinical factors associated with these rates.

The authors found that the predictors for scheduled and unscheduled readmissions are different and that transition care to prevent unscheduled readmission rates in acutely ill patients with diabetes may help reduces rates and improve care.
