LGBT Populations

Although much progress has been made in recent years to advance the rights and protections of LGBT individuals and their families, the LGBT community continues to struggle against stigma and inequalities in today’s society. In particular, LGBT individuals face significant barriers to health care, including discrimination, lack of cultural competency in the health care field, and insufficient health care services. LGBT Americans also are known to be uninsured at disproportionately higher rates compared with the non-LGBT population. NYSHealth has supported various efforts to help reduce health disparities and improve health care for LGBT New Yorkers.
