This GrantWatch article in the November 2012 issue of Health Affairs highlights the New York Health Foundation’s successful effort to help community health centers secure Federal funds to enhance primary care in underserved regions of New York, one of several projects laying the groundwork for the Foundation’s emerging focus on advancing primary care in 2013 and beyond.
The Foundation awarded a grant of nearly $400,000 to the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS) to provide technical assistance to 12 health centers as they prepared proposals for New Access Point grants, part of the $11 billion included in the Affordable Care Act to expand health centers’ capacity to deliver primary care. Ultimately, 11 of the 12 centers receiving support from CHCANYS secured Federal grants; the centers will receive an estimated $25.6 million over five years, a 64-fold return on the Foundation’s investment.
