  • A Conversation About HIPAA: A 20th Anniversary Reassessment

    On November 7, 2016, NYSHealth hosted a conversation with Linda Colon, Regional Manager, Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Raquel Malina Romanick, Staff Attorney, Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging at Hunter College; and Christine Bechtel, Consumer Advocate and Co-founder of GetMyHealthData about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The speakers discussed efforts to break down misunderstandings about the law and ensure patients and their families have access to the information they need to optimize their health.

  • Public-Private Partnerships: Behavioral Health Needs of Veterans & Families

    On October 26, 2016, in partnership with the Veterans Mental Health Coalition of the Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC), NYSHealth hosted a convening highlighting unique public-private partnerships across New York State working to meet the behavioral health needs of both veterans and their families. The RAND Corporation also released its evaluation findings of the Unified Behavioral Health Center for Military Veterans and Their Families (UBHC), a public-private partnership between Northwell Health and the Northport Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center on Long Island.

  • NYSHealth’s 10-Year Anniversary Event

    2016 marks the 10-year anniversary of the New York State Health Foundation (NYSHealth), and on October 20, 2016, we commemorated this occasion with our Board, grantees, staff, and other partners at an afternoon event. Since we began operations in 2006, we have awarded more than $117 million to more than 400 grantee organizations in our mission to improve the health of all New Yorkers, especially the most vulnerable.
