As Senior Fellow for Veterans Affairs, Colonel McDonough serves as an advisor to the President and CEO on matters related to the New York State Health Foundation’s (NYSHealth’s) Initiative for Returning Veterans and their Families. Colonel McDonough is responsible for the Foundation’s efforts to advance public policy to ensure that veterans’ funding meets the needs of New York State’s returning veterans and their families, increase comprehensive community-based services for veterans and their families, and build knowledge and cultural competency related to military issues among primary care and mental health providers to help them meet the unique needs of returning veterans and their families.
Colonel McDonough is an OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM veteran. Upon retiring from the Army in 2007, Colonel McDonough was appointed Director of the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs, where he served until 2010. Prior to joining the Foundation in February 2012, Colonel McDonough was President and CEO of Rochester, New York’s Veterans Outreach Center, Inc.
He holds both a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College and a Master of Communication degree from Indiana State University. Colonel McDonough is a member of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, the American Legion, and serves on a number of veteran-related advisory boards.
